GREGORY GONDWE is the Executive Director of PIJ – Malawi. He holds a BA in journalism from the University of Malawi – the Polytechnic and numerous media related certificates. He is the brain behind the editorial management at PIJ.
As one of the investigative journalists in Malawi, Gondwe has already connected PIJ-Malawi with the South African based AmaBhungane Centre for Investigative Journalism in pursuing different programmes to promote investigative journalism. He has also been trained by international institutions including Reuters Foundation, BBC, Africa Check, International Centre for Asset Recovery (ICAR) & The African Network of Centers for Investigative Reporting (ANCIR) in IJ data Journalism aided training.
Cumulatively, Gondwe continues to practice as a journalist, with over 25 years under his belt – since 1993. He also works as a media trainer under the MISA Malawi Capacity Building; lectures part-time at the University of Malawi – the Polytechnic. He has mentored several Investigative Journalists under the Continuing Journalism Education (CJE). CJE is an ICAR-supported program of on-going education and technical support for investigative reporters in Malawi. CJE supports journalists with the resources needed for thorough, ethical, and impactful investigative reporting. Gondwe is a freelance correspondent for the Associated Press (AP) and ITAfricaweb. He comes with a combination of newspaper, radio, tv and online journalism.
Golden Matonga
GOLDEN MATONGA – is the Investigations Director for PIJ. He is a journalist who also writes for a number of international publications including Financial Times, Mail & Guardian and EFE news agency. For several years he worked as an investigative journalist and columnist for Malawi’s Nation Publications Limited. He is also a blogger and has received award for excellence in journalism over a career spanning a decade. He has broken some of important investigative stories including a public procurement scandal surrounding the food rations contract which ensnared Malawi’s President and led to several arrests although the president was saved from prosecution through immunity laws.
